Rune for My Anger - Today I'm Mad

Today I'm mad.  Mad at my husband.  Never mind the subject, but he's ticked me off royally.  So today, I've been doing a bit of manual work around the house, inside and out, and grumbling in my head all the while.  Now I've got the grumbles out, or at least mostly, I've decided to settle down and cast myself a Rune reading to see what I can do around the issue that set me off, and also around the issue of the lingering grumbles.

My Rune casting tells me that my concern is around a lack of forward motion - that there's a breakthrough to be had, but I'm feeling constrained and this is probably the cause of my frustrations.  In fact the lack of movement here is reinforced by two of the runes and no wonder I'm mad.  LOL.

k... I'll get over it now

Learning the Runes - Hagal

This is the second in a series of three discussions on learning runes - today it's about Hagal's runes

These eight of Hagal's are about intellect, understanding and spiritual growth.  It is often called the Mother of the Runes since it encompasses the entire universe in the process of creation.  This group of eight runes are:  Hagalaz, Nauthiz, Isa, Jera, Eihwaz, Perth, Algiz and Sowelu.

The only 'power' rune in this group of eight is Hagalaz.  It is significant when pulled up in a reading.

For now, here's a brief summary of each of the Hagal Runes...
Hagalaz is about disruption, hail, sleet, or any natural forces that damage (think floods, tornados for instance)
Nauthiz is about constraint, need, necessity, causes of human sorrow, lessons, hardship
Isa is about standstill, ice, freezing
Jera is about harvest, the term of a year, a fruitful part of the year
Eihwaz is about defense, a Yew tree, a bow made of Yew, avertive powers, runic calendars or primstaves
Perth is about initiation, uncertain meaning, a secret matter
Algiz is about protection, the elk, sedge or eelgrass
Sowelu is about wholeness, the sun, life force or victory

As with the first group of eight runes, perhaps put these on flash cards.  Get to know the basic meanings.

Stay tuned for the next eight...

Learning the Runes - Freya

Sometimes, when one is just learning a new subject, like Runes, there's an overwhelming feeling of confusion.   How to do it?  Where's the theme?   What's the rhyme?  How will I ever get these straight?

The first thing to do is give them a good sorting out... into the three groupings or aettir that they're meant to be in.  Right away that breaks it down into just eight runes to learn at a time.

Let's just take the first eight today... Freya's.   Freya is the Goddess of love and fecundity, so this group of eight runes is about love, life and happiness.   They are:  Fehu, Uruz, Thurisas, Ansuz, Raido, Kano, Gebo and Wunjo.

Now as well, Fehu, Ansuz, and Thurisaz are 'power' runes.  These are significant when pulled up in a reading.  And Wunjo, is a moderating rune - it will soften some of the impact if pulled with any negative rune.

For now, here's a brief summary of each of the Freya Runes...
Fehu is about possessions, wealth, communal wealth, cattle
Uruz is about strength, sacrificial animals, the aurochs (type of ox)
Thurisaz is about a gateway, a thorn, the God Thor
Ansuz is about signals, the mouth (source of divine utterances), a rivermouth, the God Loki
Raido is about journey, a carriage, riding, the journey of the soul after death, and can be a journey charm
Kano is about opening, a torch, a skiff, can be associated with the Goddess Nerthus
Gebo is about partnership, gifts, an offering from the gods or chiefs to their loyal followers
Wunjo is about joy, and an absence of suffering and sorrow.

So start with these... more in a later conversation.

Runes - Berkana

I love this Rune, because I love learning.   Berkana is about growth.  It is one of the Cycle Runes and represents the fertility that fosters growth both symbolically and actually.  This may be in the arena of family, relationships, the self, or even the world.

It is a gentle pervasive Rune - much like a gentle wind.  When you pull this rune, you are asked to consider your issue with care - dispense with negativity, and then just DO the work.   You are asked to be clear about the outcome, and work with patience and generosity.

I would wish this Rune upon everyone.

Rune Reading for Today

The Rune I pulled today is Raido, reversed.  Upright, this Rune Reading signals a journey, but given my present state of mind, in the reversed it's telling me to be particularly attentive to my personal relationships.  It's asking me to take care to respond with humour and resilience to whatever happens.

So while my desired outcome may not be without the discomfort of personal growth, I'm confident that this journey will be re-routed in the correct direction.

Not So Much about Runes Today

I'm taking a leave from my usual blog posting on Runes or Rune Readings today to encourage you all to share this information.  We need to have an eye on the future - without our planet, we have not a hope.

Rune Reading for Imagination

I've been a little stuck lately, and wanted to do rune reading for this - I wanted to know the energy surrounding this and how to re-charge my imagination.   The rune I pulled was Kano - the Opening which reassured me immensely.

Kano is about renewed clarity and shaking off the darkness that has been shrouding life.   So I'll take this to heart, with seriousness, intent and concentration.  It is a beginning of light and this light will allow me the ability to look around at the trivia that's holding me back and rise above.

I'll work on it.

Rune for Selling a Home

I pulled a rune today to find out what lessons there are around issues around selling my home.  It has just been put up for sale, and I wanted to know if there were any issues to be aware of .

The rune I pulled is Jera - the Rune for Harvest.  The reading attached is of good outcomes as long as it is an endeavour to which one is committed.   My husband and I are certainly committed to this move.  The rune also generally talks about a year, so this rune tells me that patience is essential for the process to complete - much like a harvest which cannot be hastened.

Sigh.

LOL

Learn Runes with a Master

I have to say I am partial to Ralph Blum's book, The Book of Runes since it was the first one I read when I was interested in learning how to read Runes.   This year is the 25th anniversary of first publishing so there's a special 25th Anniversary edition you might be interested in.

Rune Power

At Ragnar Storyteller's website, he talks about using Rune Power, and drawing in power to your rune readings.   Enjoy.
