A Rune for a Birthday

It's a friend's birthday today.   I pulled a Rune for the energy of her day and got Mannaz reversed.  Mannaz is about self, feeling blocked.  I would encourage her to look inside for the enemy of her progress.  No matter what area of her life may be in uncomfortable, she needs to consider that the outer enemy is but a mirror to what she has not, until now, been able to recognize as coming from within.  She is to remember that she is always at the beginning. and with this rune,  breaking the momentum of past habit and practice is the challenge here.

The Self is required to balance the self.

Runes, Readings and the Destination

The readings of drawn or tossed Runes operate on the most basic and ancient forms of psychology.  It is a recognition of cause and effect and the interconnectedness of all things.

By accepting that fate isn't a helpless predetermined destination, but instead a destiny created by one's earlier actions then there is a realization that not only do our actions affect our immediate world and those around us, the actions of others affect us.

So where does this leave us?  Examine a rune reading on the basis of discovering the whole environment around the issue at hand.  Know that the future is changeable based on one's actions and the various possibilities that those around us will bring to the mix.  Use the reading to uncover the likely outcome for the issue and the special care needed.

Learning Rune Meanings

The earliest runic inscriptions found on artifacts or tools give the name of either the craftsman or the propietor.  Sometimes, though it remains a mystery.  Doe to this, it is possible that the early runes were not so much used as a simple writing system, but rather as magical signs to be used for charms.

The name rune itself, taken to mean 'secret, something hidden', seems to indicate that knowledge of the runes was originally considered esoteric, or restricted to an elite.

Regardless, learning to read the meanings behind runes isn't hard - certainly it's no longer restricted to any elite except the elite who care to learn..  There are numerous books written to help out the beginner, and classes can probably be found in your locale.   I encourage you to take the time to delve into this scolarship because runes can help one divine the issues around a situation, and provide the reader with alternative solutions to their challenge.

Rune Meanings - the Elder Futhark

Elder Futhark

Elder Futhark is thought to be the oldest version of the Runic alphabet, and was used in the parts of Europe which were home to Germanic peoples, including Scandinavia. Other versions probably developed from it. The names of the letters are shown in Common Germanic, the reconstructed ancestor of all Germanic languages.

The letter k is also called kēnaz (torch) or kanō (skiff). The meaning of the letter nameperþ is unknown.

My Rune Energy for the day

The rune energy surrounding me today is Sowilo.  Sowilo is the rune of goal-setting, guidance and success.  This mirrored my tarot reading for today.  My day was successful as I had a list of things to accomplish and I completed all my tasks successfully.  :) In other words, I had a bunch of housework to do and I set my mind to it and got it all done. lol

I hope you had a Sowilo rune day too.

More About What to Ask of Runes

Sometimes when you're looking at drawing a Rune to get a general overview of the entire issue it can help you focus more clearly on your issue and provide you with a fresh perspective.

As mentioned in the previous blog, focusing on the one Rune invites you to go within and function intuitively - in other words, getting to know yourself.

Drawing a single Rune is particularly helpful under stress.  If you're dealing with an issue that is requiring quick action and you feel you don't have enough information, then search for a quiet place and draw a Rune.  Often times you'll find some more insight into the issue at hand fairly quickly.

If you'd like to learn the Runes, or receive a Rune reading on an issue you have, please contact us at The Whispering Path.

Question to the Runes on a Matter of Health

A woman came to me asking about the issue of the health of her husband, and what information he needed to know at this time regarding this issue.

The Rune I pulled was Isa.  It was apparent that her husband was feeling powerless and unable to make any movement towards good health.  She was able to confirm that he was refusing to acknowledge the input he personally had towards his health issue, and therefore, was unchanging in his personal habits.  This of course caused him to feel frustrated over the situation he was in, even though deep down, he had within him the tools to take action.

My suggestion to her was to help him find out what he believed at his core that perpetuated this situation, and then to help him release that faulty belief and prepare for new beliefs.

Stay tuned... I'll let you know how it goes.  If you feel that a Rune reading would help you gain insight into your own life, please contact us at The Whispering Path.

What to Ask of the Runes...

In general, the use of Runes isn't for fortune telling.  Rather, the Runes are a teacher and a source of guidance.  'Know thyself' is the mantra of the Runes.  Consulting them will help put you in touch with your own inner guidance, that part of you that already knows everything you need to know for your life now.

So when consulting Runes, a particularly good time to do this is when you have an issue that relates to timeliness and right action.  You might need advice on whether or not to make a career change, make an investment, move to a new home, sell a business or start a relationship.  It should always be about an issue, not a question.

In fact, the best question sometimes is to simply ask "what do I need to know for my life now?"

If you have an issue that is still troubling you, and you feel as if you have exhausted your own resources in trying to resolve the issue, then talk to us at The Whispering Path for a Rune reading.  We'd be glad to help.

Rune Reading for the Energy around bin Laden's Death

With the surprising news last night of Osama bin Laden's killing, I decided to pull a rune - my question was "what kind of energy will support the Americans through this news".  Interestingly, Eihwaz was the rune that stuck to my fingers.   This rune is about defense - perseverence and patience and caution are called for.  Take care of anticipated difficulties before they present themselves.

Very fitting, I think.

My Daily Rune

My rune for today is the rune Algiz.  This is such a positive exciting rune that some people will wear it as an amulet to enhance the positive energy that surrounds it.  If you are sick this rune can symbolize the return of good health.  Algiz is the rune of protection and suggests that now is the time to follow your intuition for a guardian angel is hovering in the background. Old and new friends at this time may offer you assistance.  An opportunity may be presented to you soon which will send you in a new direction.

Algiz is a symbol of:
  • power
  • protection
  • communication
  • spirituality

Algiz--to have courage in the face of fear but not the absence of fear.  Fear could be a warning to us that protection and defensiveness will be needed at this time.
